Dagasi "Irie" Sagahl

After Endwalker, she retires from her role as the Warrior of Light and becomes an Archon. Curiously, there's another who picks up the mantle where she leaves it off...

U'zula Tia

He pursues his newfound dream, to cook - to bring people peace and happiness through tasty meals and drinks. Luna, with no idea of how to get home nor the state of the rest of her crew.

Phoebe Rulyi - a Girl Raised on the Sea
Daughter of Shanks, Eater of the Stun-Stun fruit

Her mother Diana raised her on the seas, bustling from port to port as she worked to put make sure they stayed warm and fed. For a long time, Phoebe didn't know who her father was or why exactly her mother would tense up when the marines were in town. She figured due to their way of life, pirating, that her mother was nervous that they would take her away.

Somehow, the information that Red-Haired Shanks having a biological daughter managed to get into the World Government's ear and their difficult yet rewarding life turned to one on the run. They managed it for a few years, but when Phoebe was 16 she lost her mother and her ability to swim within the same hour. From then on, she was on her own and had to learn how to handle such a devastating power without needlessly hurting people.Once she made her debut as a pirate and gained her crew, her bounty nearly broke the record for the highest initial amount - simply because of who her father was. This knowledge is not public, thankfully, so the world over assume that she's committed absolute atrocities to be that high.

Unruly Pirates - of the Worst Generation
A pirate crew renowned for its stunning captain and crew, all of who have high bounties for activities across the New World.

Upon her sudden, isekai-like arrival to Limsa, Phoebe meets Y'shtola Rhul and is recommended to travel to Old Sharlayan due to her strength, sharp mind, and quick thinking. Thancred had already found Irie and made progress with her, and Y'shtola wasn't willing to drag someone so clearly grieving a huge loss into their fold.Upon receiving letters of recommendation from both Minfillia and Krile Baldesion, Phoebe settles down in Sharlayan as an archon in marine botany. She introduces the theory of devil fruits and determines they once existed on Etheirys.

She's very impressed with Irie and the pair are fast friends, especially once Phoebe tells some silly stories of the antics she, G'raha, and Krile got up to. She wasn't expecting the Warrior of Light of all people to carry a torch for her old colleague! They stay in contact through the rest of Irie's time as the Warrior of Light, though Phoebe spends much time in Thavnair and Labrynthos. She finds herself a bit caught within the Satrap's grasp and doesn't know what to do with her feelings for him considering she never planned to stay in Etheirys long term - but now, it's been nearly a decade with not a single prospect of getting back home.

During her time as a Student of Baldesion, she became close with Krile and G'raha. She adored teasing the younger scholar and they spent many nights laughing in the Annex. Through a cruel twist of fate, she is not on the Isle of Val when it disappears, and she stays by Krile's side as much as possible until she awakens.Phoebe regrets not going with Krile to Eorzea after hearing about all that she went through and she hastens to her side when she begins investigating Eureka with Irie's help.

Terrato invites her to travel with him, sensing the anxiety and restlessness in her bones. They travel alongside Azdaja and her crew mates, Indrig Dewl and Fane D. Luna and have plenty of adventures exploring the lands and seas of Etheirys. She can hardly resist Krile's call to travel to the New World, however, and the familiar name gives her hope that perhaps there in that "City of Gold" will be a way to get back home.

Iryut Tribe - Speakers of the Jungle's Word
A Rava tribe in the Golmore Jungle with close ties to the Eryut tribe.

The Iryut Tribe is known for its traditions and archers, often fighting alongside the Eryut tribe when necessary to ward against intruders. When an Iryut is born, they are given a name until they reach adulthood - at this point, they may decide to change their name to better suit their preferences and environment.

The matriarch, Yanra has led the Iryut tribe for nearly two centuries. While the Iryut tribe is not as hostile to outsiders and those who leave the tribe as the Eryut, it is still something that is looked down upon. If an Iryut leaves children behind, even though they will be well cared for, it is regarded as unforgivable. For the most part, the Iryut tribe also stays out of the affairs of other nations - they may not immediately chase outsiders out, but they will not risk life for them.

Not only do the members of the tribe care for each other, they also look after the land by tending to the gigantic trees and foliage, hunting vermin, and otherwise maintaining the Wood's way of life. Most members are extremely skilled with lance, bow, and/or daggers. If an Iryut is struck down in battle, there is a song that is played on the flute on the battlefield and/or for the burial to honor the dead and guide them back to the Wood.

It's not certain what exactly the Green Word is, though what is certain is that any Viera that abandons their way of life will no longer hear. There may or may not be some exceptions to this "rule" however, as a certain Mirko comes to find out during her time in Ivalice.

U Tribe - Children of the Sands
A fierce and proud tribe of Seekers of the Sun Miqo'te who make their home in the Sagolii Desert of Thanalan.

The U tribe is known for its isolationism pre-ARR thanks to the stock they place in one’s strength - they very rarely deal with outsiders in the time U'zula was growing up.in his canon, spanish is the main language spoken by the U tribe and has a heavy latino influence. everything from their food to their songs and danceWith the return of U'odh and his ascension to Nuhn status, i think that their ideology begins to shift. U'zula always wondered not only about the towering city in the distance but also why the rest of the tribe hated it when he asked questions about it.

U'odh told him very little of his adventures, to U'zula’s immense frustration. I think U'odh saw a little of himself in the young boy and wanted to protect him… and more selfishly, didn’t want to lose a good Nuhn candidate to the rest of the world. To them, Ul'dah and cities like it are full of corruption and vice, and stand in the face of their “pure” belief in the laws of nature. Very quickly, U'zula realized that his way of thinking was very different to most of the tribe.

His friends U'khuba and U'tykha begin clashing with their views on what direction the tribe should go in, and when they keep accusingly asking U'zula if he’ll try to become Nuhn too, he realizes that it’s all they care about. They’re not wondering what other cultures or food or dance are out there. Becoming Nuhn would be great, he does have ideas on how to improve the tribe and he is the strongest by a long shot, but it’s not the end-all, be-all like for them.

As they get older and the tension gets worse, U'zula starts to plan to leave. U'odh knows and tries to get him to stay, that the tribe needs him and that he envisioned him as his successor, but U'zula is determined to make his own way…if it’s meant to be, it’ll beU'odh ultimately respects this choice just as much as it angers him, and leaves U'zula to his devices. He feigns surprise when he disappears. It makes for an interesting dynamic later - he’s not expecting that same young Tia to come back to him for help!U'zula still needs to go through the tests of his strength because even if he carries the same name - life outside of the desert could have softened him U'odh’s concerns are abated pretty quickly - he’s still very good with a lance at that time.

Xaela Au Ra - Race Headcanons
Auri creation myth tells of a Dawn Father (Azim) and a Dusk Mother (Nhaama) from whom all Au Ra are descended. The Xaela believe their veins to run thick with the blood of the latter—their lustrous black scales and fiery wills serving as proof of this divine lineage.

  • Au Ra do not hear the same way other races do - they're able to sense vibrations in the air that their brains can translate into what we call "sound". Au Ra horns are hollow but rigid and do not bend terribly easy to force, though they can be broken/shattered. Should an Au Ra's horn break, they will grow enough to cover the opening left behind as they are hollow. Their hearing and overall equilibrium will be impaired.

  • Au Ra experience shedding two to four times a year, the variation depending on the climate and weather changes. Near the end of a shed, a heat or rut will kick in. In most tribes, as sheds would happen at mostly the same time, these times are seen as peaceful and a blessing - most children are conceived then.

  • Au Ra are born with varying scale patterns, mostly influenced by their genealogy. For some tribes, such as the Sagahl, they've evolved over the centuries to have hardier scales that will grow over wounds instead of scar like other races. As such, in said tribes, the number or coverage of scales directly correlates to their fighting prowess and make them more desirable depending on who you ask.

  • When Au Ra are pregnant, a line of scales will grow along their lower stomach to act as additional protection for the fetus. This makes C-sections quite difficult.

  • When Au Ra are born, their horns are soft from the amniotic fluid and they cannot hear. They learn sign language in order to communicate with their family and tribe as their horns harden and develop. Typically, this development can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.

  • Scale care can vary on preference, but when an Au Ra is experiencing extreme weather outside of the norm (extreme dry/wet heat, extreme cold), they must take great care of their scales. Warm baths with nourishing oils are mostly taught and recommended from a young age and communal bathing is popular among the various tribes on the Steppe.

Sagahl Tribe - Nhaama's Weavers
A tribe which sees all beastkin as equals with man, therefore refuses to eat or use them as beasts of burden.

For many years, the Sagahl tribe was known for its strict adherence to its principles. Many other tribes of the Azim Steppe dismissed them as weak and feeble, unable to fulfill their full potential as Nhaama's Weavers if they refused to participate in the Naadam, eat meat, or rely on the assistance from beasts. Still, they were begrudgingly respected and traded frequently in Reunion to other tribes and even to merchants from Yanxia and Doma.About 80 years before the events of A Realm Reborn, there was an ideology shift within the tribe. Approximately half of the tribes people wished to slightly alter their ways to make use of the beasts they treasured and cared for - without harming them. This caused a split between those who had no desire to change and those who did, until ultimately those who chose the former left the tribe and took on a new name. The ones who have since not made contact and so they are unsure of their location or status. The Sagahl are nomadic and tend to the lands they travel through from season to season - from the Tail Mountains to The Arras to the Hyakgyr Peninsula. As a result of the tough and variable terrain they manage every year, their scales grow in differently - they grow in place of wounds instead of scar tissue. Sagahl scales are rough but supple to the touch and grow in over the lower belly to protect a growing fetus when a member is pregnant.

Due to this shift in ideology, Dagasi is raised under the tribes' new ideals - while they still do not eat meat or beast products, they live in harmony with the land. If a sheep's coat is too thick, they shave them down to ease their burden and make use of the materials for trade. If a honeybee hive has become too full for the workers to manage, they take an acceptable amount of the materials for their food.Though they are regarded as weak by other tribes, the Sagahl are anything but - they do not fear death due to their burial customs. When a member of the tribe passes, they utilize special cradles for the body to decompose in and give life back to the lands they cared for. Because they travel similar routes each year, it's customary for them to pay respects to those they've left behind.Members of the Sagahl tribe are able to sense the emotions from others near them, giving them an advantage when it comes to diplomacy with other tribes. This explains their honesty and general, matter-of-fact attitude. Through their horns, like other Au ra, they feel the reverberations of sound waves that then are translated by the brain. They do not hear in the traditional sense.

Within Dagasi's lifetime, her mother Toragana is the chief and head weaver of the tribe. Dagasi has a younger sister, Narantuuya, who has all of her mother's hopes of leading the tribe due to Dagasi being absolutely useless at weaving. Though Toragana tried, the skills never stuck, and young Dagasi always preferred gathering the materials in the wilderness with her friends anyway. Her father, Tsolmon, praised her for these efforts, as none could identify plants or minerals with nearly as much accuracy or speed as her. That wasn't good enough for her mother, however, and it made the relationship between them extremely tenuous - Toragana thought she was useless and treated her terribly and, due to her position within the tribe, none would come to her defense.

Dagasi would take trips to Reunion to trade the tribe's goods and to hear news from the world outside of the Steppe - with every new story she heard from the Yanxian merchants, the more curious she got. Then, she met Sadu Dotharl by chance and saw the other woman's absolute command over fire and ice magicks that mimicked the magicks Dagasi struggled so hard to hide. One of the onlooking merchants spoke of the Thaumaturge's guild in Eorzea that he'd briefly traded with, but it wasn't until Dagasi returned home to find that her mother had arranged her marriage with one of her friends that she knew it was time. She packed a bag that very night, bidding goodbye to that very childhood friend who knew her well enough to know she'd run, and she left.

Mirko and Haurchefant spent much time together after the events of A Realm Reborn. Mirko made a point to visit as much as possible, knowing that she had a colossal crush on the Lord of Dragonhead. After the events of the Crystal Tower, she was prompted by the loss of G'raha Tia to make a move and so, they began a sweet relationship. After the events of the Bloody Banquet, Haurchefant becomes a refuge for all of Mirko's self-doubts and, with the unflinching support and care he gives her during that time, she finds that she's in love with him.His death after the Vault hits her hard, hard enough that she puts down the bow (and near-century of experience) down and retreats to the shadows. Being pulled to the First and finding him there, alive and well, throws her for a serious loop. After beating back the Light and Hades, she gives in and lets him back in. They marry on the First, but the question remains of whether he'll be able to return to the Source alongside the rest.

What do you do when the person you love and trust most is also someone who terrifies you?Y'shtola and U'zula begin a casual, friends with benefits relationship after the events of 2.0. She makes him promise to not fall in love with her, but unfortunately with the way the Bloody Banquet ends up, he can't deny his feelings when she's returned to them from the Lifestream. She, however, cannot deal with his feelings on top of her own fear, especially amidst her sudden blindness. She pushes him away and they don't get along between 3.3 and 4.5, though not for lack of trying on U'zula's part. Try as he might to allow her anger to sour his feelings for her, he cannot help but be there for her in every way he can be.With Stormblood, he's away from her for a long stretch of time, and he regrets being so distant and cold to her when she collapses from the Exarch's summons. For her, the three years she spends on the First puts a lot in perspective when it comes to them. Once they return darkness to the First and have a chance to rest, she goes to his room in the Pendants and they rekindle their rekindle their relationship.

uzushtola - 2.2 - 2.5, 5.1 to present

irieraha - 5.1 to present

A remarkable love story - they become close friends through the events of the Crystal Tower expedition, but don't get to confess any romantic feelings before G'raha locks himself away. When his identity it revealed at the end of Shadowbringers, Irie feels so relieved, furious, guilty, betrayed - a mix of emotions that she didn't know what to do with, so she avoided him until she couldn't stay away. Their easy friendship picks up after that and very quickly falls into romance, those feelings they'd denied back then surging back to the surface.Since then, the pair are inseparable. After the events of 6.5, they live together in Old Sharlayan as both attend to their studies - for Dagasi, her interests turn to the ruins of Alexander and the Hotgo tribe. They marry and decide they'd like to have children, but it's not until the efforts of an alchemist friend Ind'hii to help them along to that goal. They're blessed with two children, Naran and Ajinai.

Dagasi and G'raha were known to tease each other over the affections of Aymeric de Borel and Estinien Varlineau - but it isn't until a chance conversation is overheard by a certain dragoon that they realize there was no need to stamp down the feelings the four of them all had.Though the Scions had publicly split, there were plenty of events to attend and issues to resolve in the world that required their combined attention. Aymeric and Estinien dote upon their bonus children Naran and Ajinai and they treat them like uncles who love their parents very much.Their poly relationship is not public knowledge and they try their best to keep things under wraps - though Dagasi doesn't make it easy on her lovers.

irieraha/estimeric - 5 years after naran's birth

iriezero - 6.4 - present

Zero was a surprise for Dagasi - she liked the voidsent from the start, but she didn't expect those feelings to ever be reciprocated. Zero made the first move though and Dagasi, after discussing with G'raha, accepted their advances.Because of their separation at the end of 6.5, Zero is only able to visit every once in a while and for days at a time. Initially, they spend time together on Dagasi's island sanctuary, hiding away from the world. As Dagasi becomes more involved in fieldwork and her children grow, though, it's not as easy to disappear together. Zero likes the children and gets along well with G'raha, Aymeric, and Estinien. As a result of their transformation and the restoration of the Thirteenth, the connection between Dagasi and Zero begins to fade. Where once, Dagasi was able to call forth their shadows easily in her spell-casting, it becomes more difficult as time goes on. Throughout Dagasi's life, they still maintain their relationship, though Zero stops visiting once Dagasi passes.

A whirlwind romance that had every chance of becoming more serious, if only it weren't for the way they each were using each other at the time. For Irie, it was a distraction from her complicated feelings about Aymeric and Estinien. For Stephanivien, it was a distraction from his family. They were casual, friends-with-benefits until Stephanivien started hinting at feeling more and Irie shut down. With her impending departure for the Far East, and potentially returning to the Steppe, she took out her fear and frustration and guilt on him. They don't speak for a long time afterwards. Upon her return to the Source in 5.1, she goes to see him and apologizes for her terrible behavior. He accepts her apology and they return to an easy friendship, as they'd both moved on from their dalliance.

Pre-A Realm Reborn
18-23

Apothecary/Botanist

Before she was known as Irie Sagahl, Warrior of Light, she was known simply as Dagasi - a masterful botanist and a sweet server at a popular restaurant in Kugane. After running away from the Steppe and her controlling mother at 18, Dagasi journeyed through the Far East for a year. She spends time with the Raen of Sui-No-Sato and eventually makes it to Kugane. She quickly falls in with a pair of Roegadyn twins, Iri and Kol, as she saves them with her quick thinking from the corrupt samurai. They live together for four years in a small apartment and manage to stay afloat as Dagasi makes use of her skills. They're able to avoid the samurai...until Iri and Kol need to make a getaway and they can't bear to drag Dagasi down with them.Once they're gone, Dagasi only stays in Kugane for another few days before there's a boat headed to Eorzea - and she recalls her original hopes in leaving the Steppe, in understanding the power that tingles at her fingertips. It hurts her heart, but she leaves the Far East and the two people she cared deeply for behind, only able to pray for their safety.

A Realm Reborn - Spring to Spring, to early Winter, ~1.5 years

Black Mage

She greatly admired Sadu's proficiency in thaumaturgy, so that was the first guild she sought. She began her journey in Eorzea under the name Irie as she felt it represented what she wanted to become. At the start of ARR, she tried to maintain her customs but soon proved impossible with tempered beast men and the food available in Ul'Dah. Still, she maintained a mostly meat-less diet and tries to avoid unnecessarily killing beast men. Thancred questioned it at the start, mistaking it for cowardice, until she explained - he always honored her wishes after that when they were together. They grew close over the course of ARR until his possession, and then when she saved him, they shared an inebriated kiss at the Waking Sands. Things are awkward for a long while, and they don't quite get that closeness back until ShB.While initially she grumbled about the bouncy scholar, she grew really close with G'raha - they had promised each other they would travel together after the research was completed, that she would take him to see the Far East. She had never really considered the idea of romance before him, hadn't really had a best friend to stay up late into the night doing Nhaama knows what in a long time. She realized just before their adventure into the World of Darkness that her feelings for him were more than platonic, but did not get the chance to act on them before he locked himself away.Though thaumaturgy and black magicks were what she favored, Irie was diligent in training other martial arts. She met Estinien as she trained to be a dragoon, so when they met again after her world came tumbling down after the Bloody Banquet, it was almost a relief to see a familiar face.

Heavensward - Winter to Fall, ~9 months

Dragoon, Dark Knight

Irie was really shaken after the Bloody Banquet, compounded by the loss of G'raha to the Crystal Tower - it takes her time to open up again. Haurchefant and the Fortemps men made her feel at home, even in a city that made her feel unsafe for the way she looked. Fearing being recognized, she made the switch to dragoon for her main fighting style yet still most Ishgardians did not trust her and thought her a heretic with plans to corrupt their city.Once Estinien is taken, however, she turns to the ways of the dark knight, resolving to defeat Nidhogg and his corruption once and for all. After Nidhogg is defeated and Estinien is saved, Irie finally allows herself time to grieve the loss of Haurchefant. Though she'd risked her all to save him, Estinien is nowhere to be found in the aftermath of their battle - likely due to the bond that now resides between them. Irie lets go of her annoyance at his disappearance, knowing that he's alive and well even if he is not near.Throughout her time in Ishgard, Irie develops feelings for the Lord Commander but refuses to act on them. Though she thinks they're requited, she doesn't want to put his position at risk as he works to improve Ishgard and the lives of her citizens. Sid gives her no small amount of grief for this and it's a sticking point in their relationship. She's relieved to have most of her Scions back and distraught at having lost Minfilia. At this point, she has no idea how to talk to Urianger anymore and does her best to avoid him - Alisaie notices this but doesn't say much about it.

Stormblood - Spring to Spring, ~1 year

Astrologian, Black Mage, Gunbreaker

Girls Trip to the Far East!! is what this expansion felt like, with a lot of pain and blood in-between. Given that Irie traveled through the Far East, she was able to show Lyse, Alisaie, and Alphinaud some of her favorite places to eat and visit. This prompted some questions that she mostly answered, though she was very quiet when they arrived to the Azim Steppe. G'raha, for the first time in a while, popped into her head as she recalled the promise they'd made each other to visit the Steppe together before he returned to Old Sharlayan. She didn't run into any of her tribe, thankfully, but she won the Nadaam for them rather than the Mol. She was less than impressed with Hien's plan to use the warriors of the Steppe in his war, but when she posed the question to the leaders of the tribes, none faltered.Being beaten down by someone like Zenos wounded her pride and Irie trained harder to end him. She would not suffer his continued existence when he had wrought so much pain from his boredom. It rang too true to the way the tribes of the Steppe behaved with the others they deemed weaker, for no reason other than just because. Here, the guilt she felt at how different her lifestyle was now threatened to overwhelm her - the Sagahl are peaceful, yet here she was training to end another's life.Later, she watched in disgust as Zenos killed himself in front of her, ignoring the immense feeling of grief that filled her at the sight. With her Scions at her side, she stood tall as the remaining Garlean forces were defeated - it may have felt like a hollow victory, but they had done it.In the aftermath, she helped Nanamo push Raubahn back home, where he belonged - she also wanted to see him at his happiest. Her feelings were mixed about Fordola, but she sympathized with her for the torture of the Echo. She spent time assisting Krile on the investigation in Eureka, becoming close friends with both she and a certain ex-pirate captain, Phoebe Rulyi. Irie enjoyed hearing their various stories from the old days, always attempting to pretend to be unaffected when a certain red-headed scholar was mentioned. Her anxiety spiked when her friends, one by one, started collapsing. The reveal that Gaius was still alive, bringing an unconscious Alphinaud to them at the border of the Burn, stretched her patience even more thin. She had nothing to say to the man.The last straw was Alisaie in the middle of Ghimlyt and she could feel her hold become tenuous at best. Still, she ran to the fight with possibly-Zenos, feeling the power difference once again but for a different reason. She sensed something was not right with his body, but before she could finish him off, she too collapsed. When she awoke to see Aymeric at her bedside and explained what had happened, she felt nothing but intense aggravation. Why were they being called?

Shadowbringers - 3 months on the First, 1 year on the Source

Red Mage, Dark Knight

Arriving in a purple forest had her incredibly disoriented, nevermind the headache that throbbed from the call as well as the hooded figure guiding her. She didn't imagine it was due to vanity - he didn't want her to know who he was. She had suspicions but kept them to herself after he claimed to not know G'raha Tia - there would be no use interrogating him then. She found Alphinaud and Alisae, found the rest of her Scions and gave them each vice tight hugs. Finding Minfillia and seeing first-hand the ache that plagued Thancred hurt her heart. Traveling to Il Mheg and facing the temptation of being the King left her feeling off-kilter, but she returned to her Scions to save them from Ranjitt and his soldiers. Killing and absorbing Lightwarden after Lightwarden had her feeling oddly...full.Seeing a ghost of the man who had threatened the Source was also strange, but they quickly became friends in spite of their past. She appreciated having Ardbert with her and they became very close over the time spent together. As she took more and more Light from the wardens, her hair greyed and became brittle. Her dark limbal rings lightened to a glowing white and some of her scales, which had grown over scars, whitened and peeled off. She felt exhaustion and apathy leak into her bones even as she tried to put on her typical mask and, from the concerned looks from the Scions, she didn't do a good job of it.G'raha's reveal absolutely shocked her, and watching him get taken right afterwards unexpectedly revitalized her. She rescued him, defeated Hades, and brought him back home just in time for her feelings for him to return in full force.

Genuinely the worst three weeks of Irie's life. This expansion was a constant struggle, day in and day out, and Irie was thankful to have her friends and family at her side. But even she knew that there were some battles they couldn't help her with - Despair was one of them. When alone on the walk through Ultima Thule, she selfishly called out to Midgardsormr, who had remained on her shoulder almost the entirety of her journey. He didn't awaken right away, but he answered, reminding her of all that she'd lost and loved - all the reasons she needed to keep going.Later, when Irie sent her Scions away for their own safety, he returned to her - funnily enough, at near the same time Zenos did, and they ceased their bickering long enough to provide assistance in fighting against Despair.Irie felt the hopes and dreams of everyone from afar and it gave her the strength to carry on. For a moment, she became Her, the Warrior of Light - a primal borne of the planet's wish for salvation. It was no surprise that Zenos challenged her after it was all said and done. Irie allowed herself the freedom to go all out and, bolstered by the power coursing through her veins, defeated Zenos...but not without nearly dying herself.
